Sheik's Canyon, Green Mask: One of the most interesting
petroglyphs in terms of color. It is fairly high up on the wall so
maybe a ladder was used. It is just a short walk into Sheik's Canyon
from Grand Gulch. I seem to recall having read that the green color
is due to copper??
It was a pleasant surprise to see a canyon named after me ;-) Please do not touch the petroglyphs you find along the way. Oils from your skin will permanently damage them. Also you will erode the colors much faster than nature ever will! Just take some pictures. Same goes for the ruins. |
